YES. Anti-wrinkle injections have been used for medical purposes such as controlling muscle spasms in children with cerebral palsy for over 30 years.

It’s been used in the cosmetic industry for over 20 years without any reports of long term harm. The substance is derived from a bacterium as in many other commonly used medicines, it is able to be used in small doses and when applied properly does not spread outside the immediate muscles into
which it’s injected.

Most patients find the treatment quick and easy. The injections may cause a slight sting. The needles used a tiny micro needle and once injected there is usually no discomfort. Some patients experience a mild headache after treatment, but this is not quite common.

The initial effect occurs within three days with the maximum muscle relaxation reached within two weeks. The injections last approximately three to four months after this you should return for a repeat dose to maintain the effect.

Anti- wrinkle injections can be used in the frown line, the horizontal lines across the forehead, and around the eyes, to prevent and improve the appearance of lines. We can also use anti-wrinkle injections in the chin to prevent a chin crease or pulling down other corners of the mouth known as the marionette lines like a puppet.

The Bunny lines or fine lines we develop around the nose from squinting or other facial movements, can also be fixed via anti-wrinkle injections. Anti-wrinkle injections are used on our neck to smooth the skin and give a slight upper facelift but preventing the muscles of the neck pulling down. Anti-wrinkle injections also treat hyperhidrosis (excessive sweating) for under the arms, hands or feet.

There may be slight swelling or redness at the injection site and a very small risk of bruising may occur. Some patients may have a sensation of heaviness around the injected area for a short time after the treatment.
